Stop Torture Now: A YouTube and DVD-based resource for Christians

A recent poll showed that 57 percent of Southern white evangelicals believed that torture was often or sometimes justified in order to gain information from suspected terrorists. When asked if the Golden Rule should be applied to the use of torture, the number of those who believed that it should never be applied rose substantially. What should an Evangelical Christian response be?

In this video-based resource made by evangelicals for evangelicals, Evangelicals for Human Rights offers small groups and classes a way to think about the practice of torture by governments. This DVD is comprised of four short segments that can be used to bring about a rich, Bible-centered discussion of one of the most critical ethical issues of our time.

In this DVD:

  • Stop Torture Now: a six-minute video outlining the basics of the problem
  • Guantanamo: a brief interview with Gita Gutierrez, an attorney for detainees held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba
  • Religious Abuse: a cutting-edge description of abusive practices involving religious practice
  • A Moral Issue: a discussion of torture as a moral issue by Dr. David Gushee, president of Evangelicals for Human Rights

Designed for honest discussion, not controversy, ”Stop Torture Now” will provide the basis for a truly life-changing conversation.
